Edwards Blasts Dems' 'Free Ride'

The following letter to the editor appears in the June 30, 2007 edition of The Franklin Times.

Budget showdown

Dear Editor:

Democrats say we must “compromise” and have been getting a “free ride,” so that’s why they raided our wallets again with another tax increase at a June 28 tax-hike showdown.

Republican commissioners Harry Foy, Don Lancaster and Bob Winters did not compromise our wallets. They voted no, against the tax hike, because they are looking out for the taxpayers who are getting sick and tired of tax-and-spend arrogant commissioners accusing us of getting a free ride.

Speaking of compromises, that’s what the taxpayers did last November when they ousted a Democratic commissioner who voted for a $45-trash tax and an income tax.

The taxpayers may compromise again by ousting more Democratic commissioners in November 2008, and finally put the brakes on those tax paid free rides to Hawaii and Chicago too.
